Editorial

at Meta

Meta Blueprint offers education through an extensive range of dynamic content that brings real value to people and businesses. Millions of people globally rely on Blueprint to help build their online presence and use Facebook tools to achieve their goals.

As editorial lead for Blueprint, I led a vital 5-person team to enhance and perfect high quality content at scale. My team supported the development of more than 100 free tutorials, online courses and in-person trainings, 8 paid certifications for professionals, and more.

I worked with creative, product, legal, and marketing teams to understand project needs and determine editorial support needed. Using a native project management tool, I created a custom intake system to field all editorial requests and capture all the information my team needed up front. I also used this system to assign editors, prioritize requests, balance workloads, anticipate incoming work, and maximize my team’s efficiency.

Meta Blueprint education

I oversaw my team’s collaboration with learning designers and product experts to develop educational materials on a wide variety of topics through meticulous developmental edits, copy edits and final proofreading checks. As editorial lead, I used my team to develop and strengthen overall writing skills and find ways to cut down on recurring issues.

What I did

  • To get specific data, I first created a simple rubric for the editors to use when evaluating drafts, which quickly highlighted problem areas where we could be most helpful.

  • To address knowledge gaps, I had my team host editing workshops in which we covered common errors with clear examples based on real content (with details changed for the grace of anonymity).

  • I then created a weekly schedule for my team to publish relevant tips and resources to remind people about quality and style guidance.

  • I also led brainstorming sessions to consult with partners in SEO, creative, and learning design to integrate their feedback and refine existing content templates.

My impact

  • These targeted efforts resulted in a measurably improved comprehension of content standards and a decrease in editorial lead times, since we had fewer content issues to fix up front when projects came to us.

  • Additionally, I delivered more streamlined, useful templates with built-in editorial direction and reduced overall content production time for the whole Blueprint team, furthering improved team dynamics.

Meta brand alignment

As editorial lead, I needed to ensure that all Blueprint content followed company guidance to achieve brand-compliant copy with appropriate voice, tone, and terminology. Aligning a high volume of content to many standards involved getting brand team approval, which could often delay launches. Additionally, one day Facebook became Meta, which meant that my team’s content required massive rebrand efforts across thousands of public materials.

What I did

  • I trained content producers to use the internal resources and terminology tools to boost content quality. In partnership with ERG leads and other content teams, I also helped build the company’s first inclusivity and accessibility-focused terminology dictionary.

  • I optimized the long brand review process by defining clear guidelines, changing the submission model to include only brand-relevant content. I also built an additional quality check into my team’s publication process to ensure all new material reflected the latest standards.

  • To lead the Meta rebrand, I liaised with legal, policy and marketing to source rebrand guidance, identify all sensitive, high-visibility content for priority review, developed a publishing plan to update other Blueprint content in systematic waves, and aligned with sister content teams to share best practices.

My impact

  • The brand content standards trainings and the new terminology project had both team-wide and company-wide impact, as the Blueprint team and other global teams could now create more inclusive, accessible content at scale with our available internal tools.

  • I reduced my entire content team’s brand review timeline from typically a week to frequently just a few hours, which led to significantly reduced operational expenses. This work also built trust and a more positive cross-functional dynamic between teams.

  • My Meta rebrand project plan provided the business education team with a strategy to complete all rebrand updates across the entire suite of help and education content in only 12 months.
